Fall Sweater Class – Knit the Antler Sweater or Cardigan!
We can’t wait for fall, and the leaves to turn, so let’s get a jump on the weather and knit a cozy pullover or cardigan! This class will walk you through making the Antler Sweater or Antler Cardigan by Tin Can Knits, a lovely worsted- to aran-weight, bottom-up sweater with gorgeous cable detailing on the yoke.
Never knit cables (or a sweater) before? Never fear. We will walk through the basics of bottom-up construction of your choice of pullover or cardigan, cabling, and reading cable charts. Learn how to pick up for button-bands and make buttonholes for the cardigan, or go straight for the pullover! Tin Can Knits patterns are graded for every size under the sun, from 0-6 months through a 60″ chest measurement!
Participants should be at the confident beginner level or higher, who can knit and purl independently distinguish between knits and purls, and are comfortable casting on and binding off. No sweater or cable experience neccessary.
Students will choose their worsted or aran weight yarn, working to 18 stitches / 4″. The Antler Sweater and Cardigan’s cables are best highlighted with a smooth, tonal or solid, tightly plied yarn. Suggested yarns include Mrs. Crosby Steamer Trunk, North Light Atlantic, Manos del Uruguay Alegria Grande, Kelbourne Woolens Germantown, Spud & Chloe Sweater, and Sugarbush Bold.
Students will receive a 10% discount on yarn purchased for use in the class. Participants must come in before the first class to select yarns. Students should come to class with the pattern, the yarn selected (first skein already wound), a stockinette gauge swatch (worked at least 5″ wide), and circular needles (and optional double pointed needles) in the size needed to get gauge.
