Intro to Felting Workshop
Have you ever opened your washer or dryer to find a favorite knitted item shrunken to doll size? If so, you’ve experimented with felting. In this session, we’ll explore felting intentionally! We’ll use water, heat and agitation to create a dense, thick fabric. If you’re in the January 9 Magic Loop Workshop, we’ll take your oversized knitted cozy and felt it to fit a to-go coffee cup. We’ll also be making felted coasters and discussing techniques for felting larger items at home.
This is a hands-on workshop, and homework or the Magic Loop Workshop is required. Felting involves water, and thins may get a little messy…. To get the full benefit of the workshop you should bring either an oversized knitted cozy from the Magic Loop session and/or several 6″ wide x 6.5″ tall squares knitted at loose gauge from doubled worsted or bulky non-superwash wool. The squares may be a single color, striped, or otherwise patterned.
Yarn for your project must be purchased at Yarnia; come in before the workshop for help in selecting appropriate materials and get a 10% discount on yarn purchased for use in the session.
Workshop fee is $25, plus $10 materials fee, for one 90-minute session with Kathleen Vandervoort.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class with your items to be felted, and a clean, fluffy towel. Wear clothing that won’t be damaged by water.
