Learn to Knit: Magic Loop Socks
Ready to learn to make socks, but are freaked out by double-pointed needles? Learn to make cuff-down socks and use the Magic Loop technique at the same time. In the first part of the three-session class, students will learn to cast on and knit a small circumference in the round with a long circular needle using Magic Loop. In the second session, students will turn the heel of a basic flap and gusset sock. In the third session, students will finish the foot and graft toe stitches–and of course cast on for the second sock!
Participants should be advanced beginners, must know how to cast on, knit, purl, bind off and work ribbing independently, familiarity with knitting in the round is recommended.
- 1 skein of fingering-weight or heavier yarn. Suggested yarns include Ancient Arts Socknado (solids), Knitted Wit Victory DK (solid-to-semi-solids), Tosh DK (2 skeins), Raggi (solids, 2 skeins), Diamond Superwash (2 skeins, preferably a light-to-medium color)
- long circular knitting needles of an appropriate size for your chosen yarn (Note: socks are knit much denser than other garments. Please choose a needle 2-3 sizes smaller than what you would normally use for your chosen yarn.)
Class fee is $115 for three classes: two 2-hour sessions, and one 3-hour session. Yarn for the class must be purchased at Yarnia; come in before your first class for help in selecting appropriate materials and get a 10% discount on yarn purchased for use in the class. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of each class with your materials.
