Winter Project Class: Knitting a Colorwork Sweater
Sweaters with colorwork yokes are both classic and trendy–and the perfect project for knitters looking to stretch their skills! This class will walk you through the basics of making a DK-weight sweater with a colorwork yoke using Tin Can Knits’ Dog Star sweater pattern–available in sizes from newborn to 4XL! Learn how to work a seamless, bottom-up sweater with a stranded colorwork yoke. Sleeves and body are knit separately, and then joined into one piece, at which point the colorwork yoke is worked. Participants should be at the confident beginner level or higher, who can knit and purl independently distinguish between knits and purls, and are comfortable casting on and binding off.
Students will choose their yarns from a set selection of DK-weight yarns appropriate for colorwork, including Kelbourne Woolens Scout, Rowan Alpaca Soft DK, Knitted Wit DK, and Madelinetosh DK, and will receive a 10% discount on yarn purchased for use in the class. Participants must come in before the first class to select yarns. Kelbourne Woolens Scout kits will be special ordered for the class and MUST be chosen by Jan 10th (color cards and choices are in-store). Students should come to class with the pattern, the yarn selected (first skein already wound), and circular needles (and optional double pointed needles) in the size needed to get gauge.
